Abstract

Trend teknologi berbasis nirkabel sedang berlangsung pada dekade ini, mencoba mengalokasikan kebutuhan manusia akan informasi terhadap tingkat mobilitas yang dimilikinya. Mulai dari hal-hal kecil yang bersifat menyenangkan hingga ke dalam transaksi-transaksi moneter. Teknologi berbasis nirkabel sendiri menawarkan banyak pilihan mulai dari ragam teknologi komunikasi data, layanan pembawa, atau juga alternatif layanan-layanan bernilai tambah yang ditawarkan oleh operator komunikasi nirkabel.

Perancangan prototipe ini mempelajari teknologi nirkabel yang dapat melakukan implementasi sistem layanan stasiun kereta api berbasis teknologi nirkabel. Mempelajari kelebihan dan keterbatasan dari teknologi yang hendak dipergunakan untuk kemudian melakukan pilihan untuk implementasi secara optimal.

Implementasi prototipe menggunakan teknologi WAP untuk memberikan layanan informasi stasiun kereta api, dan teknologi SMS untuk melayani transaksi reservasi tiket. Teknologi-teknologi nirkabel tersebut dipakai untuk menjembatani antara penyimpanan data dari pihak stasiun dengan pihak-pihak yang membutuhkan layanan dari stasiun kereta api. Layanan yang diberikan meliputi layanan informasi kereta, informasi realisasi kedatangan kereta, berita seputar layanan, dan reservasi tiket.
